My dear Sir

I received your note this morning & therefore did not call on you. I am glad you are satisfied with the article. One always has to omit materials one would like to employ, & I have as it is exceeded the usual limits of a Fortnightly article. | I made no reference to the Census of the International because to have done so without making some precise & incontrovertible statement as to the number of English members would have had, in my judgment, a bad effect.

I have written to Morley to ask if | you may have a dozen slips. He tells me that there is to be an article by Colonel Chesney (the military critic of the Saturday I believe) against the Jacobin phantom.

ys sincerely
E S Beesly
