Dear Sir:

Would it be possible to prevail upon you to contribute the Story of the Campaign to the columns of the Sphinx ? Something after the fashion of the papers you wrote upon the strategy of the American War, and  Siehe F. Engels: The War in America. In. The Volunteer Journal. Manchester. 14. März 1862.

one of which you were good enough to publish in | the old Volunteer Journal
. I need not say how highly I should value such a contribution: it is perhaps more to the purpose to say that a series of the kind would be deeply interesting to all our readers and especially to your own countrymen in this city.

In default of any other article bearing upon the all-engrossing subject, I have this week taken the liberty, which I doubt not you will excuse, of   [Friedrich Engels:] A German General on the French Army. In: The Sphinx Bd. 3, Ausg. 102 (July 23, 1870). S. 237–238.

Will you kindly give my suggestion your consideration and an answer at your convenience?

Yours faithfully,
J. H. Nodal.
