The Committee desire me to call your attention to rule 4 of this library
“That the subscription of one pound one shilling annually be paid in advance, on every first day of January, and that any proprietor suffering his subscription to remain unpaid for two months, shall receive a notice from the Committee to pay the same; and if | the subcription shall remain unpaid for another month, the share of such proprietor in the library shall be forfeited, unless a satisfactory reason be given to the committee.”
In compliance with this rule I beg to say that the Committee will be glad if you will kindly pay the subcription due on the 1st January last.

Zeugenbeschreibung
Soweit aus der Fotokopie zu ersehen ist, besteht der Brief aus einem Bogen weißem Papier. Kauffmann hat die ersten zwei Seiten vollständig beschrieben, die übrigen zwei Seiten sind leer. Schreibmaterial: schwarze Tinte.
Von unbekannter Hand: Nummerierung des Briefes oben auf der ersten Seite: „60“ (Bleistift).
Von Engels’ Hand: Vermerk unten links auf der ersten Seite: „Cheque £ 1.1.–/ 14th March“ (schwarze Tinte).
