Dear Sir

On certain terms I should desire to keep the Books of the Manchester Subscription Library together—If, for instance, I could retain my right to use them in comfort I should like it. But then your proposal is very badly placed before  | me & I presume before others also. I don’t know whether the Schiller-Anstalt takes in either papers or Magazines—I don’t know if it has a desirable reading room or whether its members take the Books to their Homes. All these things should have been explained & I should still be glad  | to learn something about them. It sounds rather discouraging to hear that there exists the need for a new Building. Should you think it worth your while to see me I shall be happy to consider the matter further.

Yours faithfully
John Berry(?) Joule

Hon Sec
Manchester Schiller-Anstalt.
