Soweit aus der Fotokopie zu ersehen ist, besteht der Brief aus einem Bogen weißem Papier. Wasserzeichen: „Joynson / 1870“. Davydov hat die erste Seite vollständig, die zweite zu zwei Dritteln beschrieben; die übrigen zwei Seiten sind leer. Schreibmaterial: schwarze Tinte.

Aufdruck oben auf der ersten Seite: „39., Gracechurch Street, / London, .....187.. / E. C.“ (obere Adresszeile gestrichen und neue Adresse darüber handschriftl. ergänzt).

Von unbekannter Hand: Nummerierung des Briefes: „29–2“ und der beschriebenen Seiten: „2676b–c“ mit Bleistift.

On 21st inst. I have sent to you a cheque for £ 4A. Davydov an Engels, 21.8.1871., receipt of which you have acknowledged, but up to this time this cheque did not come through the London & Westm. Bank and the person who drew it is very uneasy presuming this cheque is gone to the hands of some doubtful person; please on receipt of this drop a line to me in saying have you cashed it, or have you endorsed in favor of some other person, as until the cheque does not come to the Bank, the person in question will be very uneasy.
