Soweit aus der Fotokopie zu ersehen ist, besteht der Brief aus einem Blatt weißem Papier. Reid hat eine Seite etwa zu drei Vierteln beschrieben, die Rückseite blieb vermutlich leer. Schreibmaterial: schwarze Tinte.

It is evident by the non publication of my letter in the Telegraph of yesterday, that the Editor is desirous of doing me as much injury as possible by delaying my reply to their paragraphSiehe R. Reid an Marx, 27.7.1871., I have not a shaddow of a doubt on my mind but they were aware of my connection with the paper when they published the paragraph, At all events they were bound to make inquiry before publishing the contradiction

I consulted an attorney yesterday who is of opinion that they are responsable for their Agent in Paris who engaged me, that their plea of ignorance will availl avail nothing, And he wrote them to the effect that if they do not immediately contradict their paragraph that furthur further proceedings would be taken,
