Soweit aus der Fotokopie zu ersehen ist, besteht der Brief aus einem Bogen weißem Papier. Jung hat alle vier Seiten vollständig beschrieben. Schreibmaterial: schwarze Tinte.

Stempel oben rechts auf der ersten Seite: „H. F. Jung / Watchmaker & 4. Charles St. / Clerkenwell / E. C.“.

Von unbekannter Hand: Datierung oben auf der ersten Seite mit Bleistift: „18/1 71“.

Dear Marx

I have written to Applegarth but instead of replying to me by letter he preferred to see me & tell me what Jules Favre’s Secretary said; in the course of a conversation Applegarth said: our platform means the recognition of the French Republic by our government & armed interference if need be; the other replied: what we want is assistance & if the urging of the recognition of the republic should cause any delay in rendering that assistance then you had better leave that point out; we want immediate assistance as for the republic we have got it and we will take care of it.

as Applegarth writes it but it seems more likely to be Reütlinger he is german by birth & a naturalised Frenchman.
