Soweit aus der Fotokopie zu ersehen ist, besteht der Brief aus einem Bogen weißem Papier. Wasserzeichen: „B[FK] / RI[VES]“. Thieblin hat die erste Seite vollständig, die dritte zu zwei Dritteln beschrieben; die übrigen zwei Seiten sind leer. Schreibmaterial: schwarze Tinte.

I saw this morning the man we spoke of. An hour’s talk has not given me any information worth while having. All hopes seem to rest upon Gambetta’s and the Radical’s blunders. “The more the middle classes are frightened the better chance will be given us”,—was a sentence repeated several times.

With reference to the International it would seem that some of its members have offered their services, but the offer was declined
