In the first instance my best thanks for the offer of TooleSiehe Laura Lafargue an Marx, 12.12.1871 und Paul und Laura Lafargue an Engels, 12.12.1871. Es geht um ein Angebot zum Druck der französische Ausgabe des ersten Bandes des „Kapital“. Sie erschien in periodischen Lieferungen von 1872 bis 1875 in Paris. Siehe Karl Marx: Le Capital. I accept it under two express conditions,

1) that if the enterprise fails, I have to pay the sum advanced with the usual interest upon it,

2) that Toole does not advance more than 2000 fcs. The expression of the Editor that this is only wanted for the beginning seems to me ominous. At all events Toole must stipulate that his obligations refer only to this “beginning”.

I prefer in every respect a cheap popular edition.

It is a fortunate combination that a Second German edition Angeregt durch den Vorschlag des Verlegers Otto Meißner (siehe O. Meißner an Marx, 28.11.1871.), kurzfristig die 2. Auflage des ersten Bandes des „Kapitals“ zu besorgen, begann Marx im Dezember 1871 mit der Vorbereitung zur 2. Auflage (Karl Marx: Das Kapital. Kritik der politischen Oekonomie. 2., verb. Aufl. Hamburg 1872), für die er die 1. Auflage gründlich überarbeitete. Siehe MEGA2 II/6. has become necessary just now. I am fully occupied (and can therefore write only a few lines) in arranging it, and the French translator will of course have to translate the amended German edition. (I shall forward him the old one with the changes inserted). Möhmchen is just trying to find out the whereabouts of Keller. She has written for that purpose to his sister. If he is not to be found (and in due time), the translator of FeuerbachJoseph Roy. would be the man.

The Russian edition (xxxxxxppxxy (after the first German edition) will appear January next in St. PetersburgG. A. Lopatin und N. F. Daniel’son fertigten eine russische Übersetzung vom ersten Band des „Kapitals“ an, die im März 1872 erschien (Karl Marx: Kapital. Kritika Političeskoj Ekonomii. / Карлъ Марксъ: Капиталъ. Критика политической экономии. Переводъ съ немецкаго. Т. 1. Кн. 1: Процессъ производства капитала. С.-Петербургъ 1872, Bd. 1, übers. von [German Lopatin] und [N. F. Daniel’son], S.-Peterburg 1872).
