Soweit aus der Fotokopie zu ersehen ist, besteht der Brief aus einem Bogen weißem Papier. Papierabriss an der linken oberen Ecke des Bogens. Liebknecht hat die erste Seite vollständig beschrieben, die dritte Seite quer mit vier Zeilen. Die zweite und vierte Seite sind leer. Schreibmaterial: schwarze Tinte und Bleistift (o. stark ausgeblichene schwarze Tinte?).
Die erste Passage („Dear Mohr ... of it“) und die letzte Passage, mit der Liebknecht den Empfang des Geldes offiziell quittiert („I received 80 Taler ... of the present war.“) sind mit schwarzer Tinte geschrieben. Der Text dazwischen, wie auch das nachträglich eingefügte „for the Sick und Wounded“, ist mit Bleistift geschrieben und wurde später (am 30. November) hinzugefügt.
