<note>Zur Datierung: Im Brief sind die Vorlesungen über die Pariser Kommune von
Adolphus Smith „on Saturday evng“ erwähnt. Nach den Mitteilungen in der
britischen Presse fanden die Vorlesungen wahrscheinlich am 1. Juli 1871 statt
                    (siehe <bibl type="primary" corresp="https://megadigital.bbaw.de/NVX83Y6T">MEGA I/22</bibl>. S. 1070, Erl. 245.20–21), was
tatsächlich ein Samstag war. Da Truelove seinen Brief am „Monday morning“
verfasste, kann der Brief auf Montag, den 3. Juli 1871 datiert werden.</note>
