I take the liberty of writing to you, footing on our acquaintance on happier days years ago.

Mr Ermen kindly inquired after me of Mr KesselmeyerEventuell einer der Inhaber von W. & C. Kesselmeyer, Manchester—Cotton velvets, &c.? and he has given him the answer I would have given him. Of course I only guess what is wanted of me, but feel fully competent that I can fill the situation to the satisfaction of my employers. Of course the salary Mr K. mentioned for a situation I think it is, but I would rather be inclined to take less for the first year and be raised by my own merits as I have no doubt I can bring some valuable connections, than loose the chance.

I have been without some permanent situation since I came back from India and have only done a small commission business and an active man same as I have been and forced now nearly into a idleness—is a horrid life. I often wished I would work gladly, even only for my daily Bread if I had only the chance. Please see my dear Mr Engels what you can do for me and I will feel ever grateful to you.

Please send me an answer if you say only yes or no so that I am out of the suspense.
