Soweit aus der Fotokopie zu ersehen ist, besteht das Schreiben aus einem Bogen weißem Papier. Wasserzeichen: „Joynson / 1869“. Es handelt sich um ein vorgedrucktes Schreiben auf der ersten Seite mit einem auszufüllenden Formblatt auf der dritten Seite. (Von Engels’ Hand: der Vermerk mit Tinte auf der dritten Seite in der Mitte: „sent signed to Mr Bronwning, 29 Sept 69. with cheque £ 6.6.“. Siehe Engels an Thomas Browning, 29.9.1869). Die übrigen zwei Seiten sind leer.

Brazenose Club. 4, York Chambers, King Street,Manchester,July 29th, 1869. Dear Sir,

I beg to enclose a circular respecting the formation of the Brazenose Club, and to request the return of the accompanying form duly signed.

It has been decided that the Subscription and Entrance Free shall be considered as due on the 30th of June last; and, as the necessary outlay has already commenced, I shall be glad if you will pay these amounts (£6. 6s.) to the credit of the Brazenose Club, at the Manchester and Liverpool District Bank; or to the Treasurer, Mr. Thomas Browning, No 4, York Chambers, King Street, at your earliest convenience.

Should you be willing to assist the Committee by taking up Debentures, I shall be obliged by your specifying the number on the annexed form. The Debentures will bear interest at the rate of Five % per annum.

It is hoped that the Club will be open for the use of Members in September next.
