Der Brief besteht aus einem Bogen mittelstarkem, weißem Papier im Format 271 × 210 mm. Borkheim hat zwei Seiten vollständig beschrieben, die übrigen zwei Seiten sind leer. Schreibmaterial: schwarze Tinte.

Ovaler Aufdruck „Schröder & Schÿler & Co Established 1739 Bordeaux.“ auf der ersten beschriebenen Seite oben links, rechts daneben Adressaufdruck „65, Fenchurch Street E.C.“ (gestrichen, darüber roter Stempel mit neuer Anschrift) und Datumszeile „London, ___18_“.

Von unbekannter Hand: Nummerierung des Briefes oben links auf der ersten Seite mit Bleistift: „186“.

Since the beginning of this year I am the subscriber to the “Diplomatic Review”. I had with pleasure presumed that I would find, the “Review” had made use of the pamphlet I sent you, the author of which is what I call one of the European Finance cossacks, vulgo Isidor Gerstenberg. Such not beeing the case, I shall thank you to get back that little book at your earliest convenience.

I regret that you have not yet been able to get an answer from the Editor of the “Diplomatic Review” as to their being disposed or not to avail themselves of the notes I commenced to collect on the Russian advance in Central Asia, by your advice. If the “Diplomatic Review” will not print them, I shall have no difficulty in giving them the publication they merit in another paper.
